It always kills a good vibe when a party holiday meant for fun and excitement happens during the regular Monday through Friday workweek. Most people have jobs they have to be at the next day, and it really makes a 9-5 worker wish that the day of celebration would lie on a weekend. This upcoming Halloween – and last year as well – both unfortunately happen(ed) during the workweek. This year it’s a Wednesday – last year it was on a Monday. In fact, we won’t get a Halloween that actually lies on a weekend until the year 2014! So with that in mind – what on Earth could possibly make it so that a bunch of crazy Coloradoans sell out a 6,500 capacity venue with people dressed in their best Halloween costumes to rage face all night, loooong after the clock has struck midnight and we all turn into pumpkins?

A HALLOWEEN CONCERT-PARTY THAT IS FULL OF EARTH-SHATTERING FACE-MELTING SOUL-CRUSHING BASS.

(That’s what.)

Last Halloween, we were lucky to be graced with some bass-superstars. Skrillex headlined a show with a line-up that every Skrillex fan would envy. Skrillex himself was already in the middle of “The Mothership Tour” across North America along with 12th Planet, Foreign Beggars, Two Fresh, and Nadastrom. They had already done over thirty shows together at that point on this tour. For this exclusive Denver Halloween show last year, however, even more killer names in bass music were added on to the line-up for our show only, making this special show extra special for Colorado alone: Skream & Benga and Nero (along with Alana Watson, original vocalist for songs like ‘Innocence’, ‘Guilt’, ‘Me and You’, and ‘Promises’ live).  Oh, did I mention that this single show had its own title “Spooky Tings”?  I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again. We Coloradoans are spoiled rotten when it comes to music.

We Coloradoans are spoiled rotten when it comes to music.

I think it’s safe to say that Skrillex enjoys coming to Colorado in general. In fact, Skrillex tells the Mile-high audience how we hold a special place in his heart, and while he very well may say that at every venue he plays at, for all we know…the difference is, he actually makes his presence here quite often (I’ve seen him live in Colorado alone six times over the past 2 years). Maybe he just likes the lack of oxygen, I mean he was just here just over two months ago (August 9th) for another sold out show at a venue nearly twice as big – the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre (SKRILLEX AT RED ROCKS AUGUST 2012 REVIEW). After this year’s performance again at the 1st Bank Center, it seems as if Skrillex will have made an appearance in Colorado alongside other bass-music superstars a Halloween tradition. I’d like to think it’s because we have all the best freaks in costumes in one convenient spot. I suppose having one of the two Beatport headquarters in the world here in Denver probably doesn’t hurt, either.

I wasn’t sure if last year’s Halloween show could be topped – other than a few minor complaints, the show was epic. We shall see as the night goes on…but if based on the lineup alone, this year’s lineup definitely gives last year’s show a run for the money.

Knife Party vs.  Skrillex are listed as the headliners, doing a special two-hour back-to-back set. Special guests are listed as Tommy Trash,  (just killed it  August 30, 2012 at Beta Nightclub which is a Top 25 Worldwide in the according to DJ Mag August 30th), Kill the Noise (will smash the Funktion Ones at  Beta December 7th, 2012), Zane Lowe, and Baauer (who just played at Beta on Friday, 10/19/2012).

If you have been living under a rock, and don’t know about Knife Party yet, it’s time to join the rest of us in 2012. Knife Party is comprised of two former members of Pendulum, who were an electronic rock band. Pendulum will have a DJ set at Beta Friday, November 16th. These two former members of Pendulum are Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen. Knife Party is fairly new to the game, but with these seasoned EDM musicians as the members, they certainly know what’s up in the game and have found ultra-success as Knife Party thus far. They played their first-ever performance as this duo in August 2011, and have been taking on the world ever since.

I think it’s safe to say Skrillex loves coming to Colorado.

The Halloween show at 1st Bank Center (a.k.a. 1st BASS Center) will be the third stop in a mini-tour titled the Haunted House Tour lasting 5 dates over a week long span of time. Seeing as how the other dates are in New York City this Friday, Chicago, Oakland and Los Angeles, with Denver being the one in the middle that actually lies on Halloween, I’d say that’s a pretty big deal. It just proves our standing in this EDM scene here in the Mile-High. This show is bound to be one of the best Halloween parties/events in the nation. So go on. Be excited to have all your costume make-up literally melt off your face, while having your face literally melted at the same time. It’s gonna be big.
