MartyParty with Virtual Boy – 12/21/2012 | Event Preview

This December 21^st, go ahead and feel free to unwrap an early Christmas present sent by Euphonic Conceptions just for you, because they love their bass children. South African dub-master Martin Folb (better known as MartyParty) will make his return to Denver to dish out another delicious purple helping of bassface. He will be joined by Virtual Boy (1320 Records), Crywolf (doing a DJ set), Bedrockk, and Seth Abrumz.

If you haven’t yet experienced a MartyParty show, well honey, you are missing out. MartyParty is one-half of the nasty-bass duo PANTyRAID. Whether you see PANTyRAID or MartyParty as a solo act, you are guaranteed to have an original and spontaneous face-melting session. Every single performance is unique, no puppetry pre-recording here, boys. He re-invented a new way of making electronic, more specifically bass music, because he didn’t want to follow the same trends that were typically being followed in the EDM scene. In general, his tracks combine a mixture of hip-hop, trap, dubstep and EDM. MartyParty dubbed his own sound as “purple”. MartyParty was one of the first artists that I heard to mix dirty hip-hop with dirty dubstep back a few years ago, and boy does he do it well. At other times, his tracks have heavily emotional melodies that are very developed with several layers, of course including heavy-hitting bass. To top all that off, MartyParty delivers a high-energy, mind-blowing set from start to finish time after time. If you like bass music at all, I promise you won’t be disappointed. Virtual Boy is an “experimental electronic music” duo that was assembled in a non-typical fashion, at least when it comes to EDM music. Henry Allen and Preston Walker are both classically-trained musicians (Allen had classical guitar training while Walker is classically vocally trained), and are the two artists that make up this bass-tastic duo dub group. Their music can be described as a mixture of dubstep, electronic, glitch, synthpop and bitpop. They met at the Chapman University’s Conservatory of Music in Orange County, California during their freshman year there together. They started composing music as a compilation for school in their Music Technology course. They made EPs as their coursework to turn into their professor to be graded. It looks like their music was appreciated and spread much farther than just the classroom, because here they are, opening for MartyParty. The exposure of their classroom EPs earned them an approach from the founder of Low End Theory, who invited them to release a follow-up EP on his label. The rest seems like history. Can’t wait to see them for the first time warm things up for MartyParty!

The rest of the opening acts will include Cry Wolf from Raleigh, NC, Bedrockk straight outta Denver, and Seth Abrumz (Got Bass / House of Dub) who is also from Denver. All of these acts together are the ingredients for an amazing night, so do yourself a favor and get yourself a great head start on the opening of those Christmas presents this year with this event (not to mention celebrating the world not ending)!
